Hyatt Hotels has announced a new Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment initiative which incorporates an accreditation process by the Global BioRisk Advisory Council (GBAC).
Beginning in May, Hyatt will introduce GBAC STARTM accreditation through a performance-based cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention program focused on establishing sanitary, safe, and healthy hotel environments.
Hyatt is the first hospitality brand to commit to GBAC STARTM accreditation, which includes a detailed program for the company’s network of more than 900 properties worldwide. GBAC is a division of worldwide cleaning association, ISSA.
Some of the new operational protocols will include trainings and recertification process for hygiene and cleanliness; increased frequency of cleaning with hospital-grade disinfectants on all high-touch surfaces, guestrooms and shared spaces and prominently placed hand sanitiser stations throughout hotel public and employee areas and entrances.
Hyatt will also implement enhanced food safety and hygiene protocols for restaurants, room service and group meetings and events and provide protective masks and other equipment for hotel colleagues.
Hyatt will also require every one of its properties to have at least one hygiene manager on staff. Hygiene managers will ensure the hotels adhere to the company’s new protocols which include increased cleaning frequency, enhanced food safety and hygiene protocols, and continuous training and certification programs. This is expected to take effect from September.

Other global hotel chains including Hilton and Marriott International have also announced new cleaning measures in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Hilton announced this week it has partnered with academic medical centre, the Mayo Clinic, and Reckitt Benckiser (RB), maker of Dettol, to introduce a new set of cleaning protocols across its 6100 hotels.
Marriott International has established a Global Cleanliness Council, which will include input from both in-house and outside experts including senior leaders from across Marriott disciplines like housekeeping, engineering, food safety, occupational health and associate well being.
