The Australian Cleaning contractors’ Association’s (ACCA) executive director John Laws has mooted the establishment of a contract cleaning marketplace monitoring body that would be operated under the auspices of the Australian Cleaning Institute (ACI).

Having calculated standard hourly charge out rates for full and part-timers, Laws pointed out that the minimum part-time rate for an evening cleaner should be costed at about $40 per hour.

“Who is doing that? Not too many because we are all in the midst of the price driven war which has sent rates to the floor. If any of you are getting $30.00 per hour I will be surprised,” Laws stated.

He observed that some other industries monitor marketplace costs in order that their service providers can price appropriately.

Laws said that a nominal $200 per company per annum for the service would help fund the ACI while also delivering marketplace intelligence to the benefit of both contractors and property managers.
