BICSc launches accredited cleaning systems standards
- Dateline: 20.02.2010
The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) has announced the launch of new Accredited Cleaning Systems Standards for cleaning equipment and systems manufactured and/or marketed by Corporate Members of the Institute. ‘These will provide all areas of the cleaning industry with an assurance of independently field-tested excellence by which to judge the quality and effectiveness of products offered in the professional cleaning market.
‘Manufacturers and suppliers of cleaning equipment and materials are invited to submit their products for field testing by the Institute to establish their reliability, efficiency and safety in the environments in which they are intended to be used, and to obtain the Institute’s Accreditation as a badge of approved reliability and safety,’ said the official mid-February release.
The testing regime is said to arduous and thorough and culminates in the provision of a Field Trials Outcome Report to the manufacturer or supplier submitting the equipment for Accreditation. Equipment meeting the required test standards will be awarded a Certificate of Accreditation, and the manufacturer or supplier will be entitled to use the BICSc Accreditation logo in their promotional and point of sale material.
The first company to be awarded BICSc Accreditation is Ecolab for its institutional and industrial cleaning and sanitising products.
“With almost four decades of experience of improving industry knowledge of cleaning science, BICSc is the natural leader in the education of those in the cleaning industry,” explained Stan Atkins (pictured), the Institute’s chief executive officer.
“Our mission is to sustain and protect the safety of the built environment and to ensure that equipment and systems used for cleaning are safe and effective for the users and for the occupants of the buildings being cleaned,” he added.
BICSc is described as the largest independent professional and educational body in the UK cleaning industry. The Institute exists to promote and advance knowledge of the science of cleaning and to raise standards and quality within the cleaning industry. It has 5,000 members across all areas of the cleaning industry, including local authorities, contract cleaners, cleaning product manufacturers and suppliers, training organisations and cleaning operatives in the UK and overseas.
